Anjanée Bell Officially Files as a Candidate for Durham Mayor

July 6, 2025, Durham, NC — Anjanée Bell will officially enter the race for Mayor of Durham by filing her candidacy paperwork at the Durham County Board of Elections on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 8:15 a.m. Supporters and members of the press are invited to gather at 3825 S. Roxboro Street, Suite 101, Durham, NC 27713 to witness this historic moment and hear remarks from the candidate.

Bell enters the race with a bold governing agenda: Durham is H.O.P.E.—a clear, people-powered plan to build a better Durham for everyone. Her agenda is rooted in four pillars:
Housing & Healing. Opportunity & Ownership. People’s Safety & People’s Trust. Environment & Education.

“Durham, North Carolina is a city full of brilliance, resilience, and care,” says Bell. “Too many of our neighbors are being priced out, pushed out, or left behind. I am running to lead with clarity and compassion—and to help build a Durham that truly works for the people who already call it home.

Her campaign prioritizes action over rhetoric—with a clear promise to deliver a better Durham for everyone. Among her core commitments:

  • Expand tenant protections and keep people housed—because no one should be priced out of the city they call home.

  • Invest in local businesses, artists, and youth—not just court big developers, but build an economy with the community, not over it.

  • Reimagine public safety—through prevention, trusted presence, and care, not just punishment.

  • Treat schools, libraries, parks, and neighborhoods as sacred civic ground—because every child, elder, and neighbor deserves space to learn, grow, and belong.

“Every block tells a story. Every neighborhood deserves respect. Every artist, child, elder, and worker deserves a real stake in Durham’s future,” Bell says. “This is not just about policy. It is about people. It is about building a Durham where everyone is seen, safe, heard, and supported—no matter their ZIP code.”

Bell’s campaign is powered by vision—and grounded in experience.
A longtime advocate, artist, and coalition-builder, she has brought together faith leaders, educators, entrepreneurs, and everyday residents to shape real solutions for Durham. She brings both the heart and the discipline to lead at this moment—guided by purpose, not performance. Her candidacy is built to meet real needs, restore trust, and deliver results. She brings both vision and lived experience to the mayor’s race—leading not with ego, but with excellence, empathy, and execution.
