Statement of Support from Former Durham Mayor William V. “Bill” Bell

Endorsing Anjanée Bell for Mayor of Durham, North Carolina

I, William V. “Bill” Bell, am pleased to announce my endorsement of my daughter, Anjanée Bell, for Mayor of Durham, North Carolina.

Having served as Durham’s Mayor for 16 consecutive years (2001–2017), I chose not to run for re-election in 2017. I remain fully aware of the responsibilities and leadership qualities required to serve effectively as the Mayor of Durham.

In my opinion, and as her father, Anjanée has the qualities to become an effective Mayor of Durham. She is a quick study, intelligent, friendly, engaging, and personable with all groups of people. She is a hard worker and a single mother of three (3) children, all in Durham Public Schools—and she LOVES Durham.

She has the ability to listen well and respectfully to those who are speaking on issues before her. She works well with her colleagues in different environments, both public and private, to find the best decision on the issues before them. Once a decision has been made, she moves on without malice, whether the final decision was one she supported or did not support.

In short, for brevity and space, I could say much more about her candidacy for Durham’s Mayor. I will conclude by saying that both she and I would appreciate your support and your vote as she continues her campaign (BellForDurham.com) to help make Durham a better place for everyone—particularly those who call Durham home, as well as those who may choose to visit.

Sincerely,

WILLIAM V. “BILL” BELL
